CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Writer for Prestige LGBTQ+ Audio Miniseries
An established audio drama producer is seeking an up-and-coming writer to collaborate on a six-episode prestige LGBTQ+ audio miniseries.
The project is an official, rights-secured audio adaptation of a celebrated LGBTQ+ novel. To protect the intellectual property and maintain production privacy, the title of the source material and the producer's name and production company will remain confidential until the finalist interview stage.
1. THE PROJECT & COLLABORATIVE PHILOSOPHY
Format: Six half-hour, full-cast, scripted episodes, with a target running time of 28 minutes per episode.
Tone: Character-driven, sophisticated, and deeply rooted in LGBTQ+ history and themes.
Role: Writing and co-writing episodes and collaborating on the miniseries bible.
Collaborative Environment, Credit & Iteration: A collaborative production with a "story first" philosophy. Scripts will undergo multiple drafts and revisions. The selected writer will work with the producer to develop story arcs, refine structure, strengthen dialogue, and maintain tonal consistency throughout the miniseries. Responsibilities and final credits will be established in the writer agreement.
2. PRODUCTION TIMELINE & DEADLINES
Contracts with the author's estate have officially been finalized, and we are moving quickly into development to meet strict production milestones:
- Fall/Winter 2026: Long-range story mapping, structural outlining, and script writing.
- Spring 2027: Casting, contingent upon finalized scripts.
- Summer 2027: Principal recording must commence no later than August 2, 2027.
3. COMPENSATION
The project has only just begun development following execution of the agreement with the author's estate. The production budget is being created. At present, payment for the writing assignment is built around a revenue share based mofel on income earned from distribution of the miniseries across audio platforms.
Additional funding is anticipated, and the compensation structure may be revised accordingly. Compensation terms will be defined in the writer agreement before work begins.
4. ELIGIBILITY
Age and Identification: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and be able to provide valid identification upon request by the producer.
Language Requirements: Submissions are open to writers worldwide. Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English. All writing assignments, communications, meetings, revisions, and other work associated with the project will be conducted in English.
5. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are seeking an up-and-coming writer with a strong individual voice and an understanding of long-form, audio-first storytelling.
Previous professional audio drama credits are not required. We are particularly interested in applicants who can work collaboratively, meet production deadlines, participate in virtual story meetings during development, and respond constructively to revision and feedback.
Writing samples should demonstrate:
- Story Structure: The ability to sustain a complete narrative arc from beginning to end, with satisfying character development and resolution.
- Creativity & Originality: A distinct voice that brings fresh perspective, emotional depth, and thoughtful thematic execution to the material.
- Writing for the Ear: An understanding of how sound, environment, action, and dialogue can tell a story without relying on visual exposition.
- Dialogue & Subtext: Sharp, layered, natural-sounding dialogue in which characters do not always say exactly what they mean.
6. THE SELECTION PROCESS
PHASE 1 (Script Review): Applicants must submit one complete, self-contained script, preferably a drama, although any genre is acceptable. The script must demonstrate a fully developed narrative with a clear beginning, middle, and end, including a satisfying resolution. Excerpts, incomplete scripts, cliffhanger endings, and stories requiring continuation in another installment will not be accepted.
Writing samples should represent about one hour of running time. We recognize that page counts vary depending on format, dialogue, pacing, and production requirements. There is no strict page limit, but applicants are expected to exercise judgment regarding length. For unusually long submissions, the review team reserves the right to stop reading before reaching the end.
Audio drama scripts are preferred, although stage plays and screenplays will be accepted if they demonstrate strong potential for audio adaptation.
PHASE 2 (Finalist Selection): Samples will be evaluated using the criteria outlined above. Applicants whose submissions demonstrate the strongest potential fit for the project will advance to the finalist stage.
PHASE 3 (NDAs & Interviews): Finalists will be asked to sign a project-specific Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Once signed, the source material, production company, full project scope, and the producer's identity and credits will be shared during a virtual interview.
