When this project began, the goal was simple:
to create a limited-edition commemorative silver coin to mark
the 60th anniversary of Dark Shadows.
Unfortunately, changes in the cost of silver over the past
several weeks significantly increased the projected price of
the coin. As a result, reservations did not reach the level
required to make the project viable.
Even at a reduced production run of 100 coins, reservations
would have covered only about 38% of the total needed to
proceed.
For those interested in the economics of the project, I want
to be transparent about the actual costs involved.
The planned retail price of the coin was $125. The total cost
per coin came in at about $115, leaving about $10 per coin
after expenses.
That margin left very little room for error, and with
reservations falling well short of the required level, the
numbers simply didn’t support moving forward.
A detailed per-coin budget is available upon request.
I’ll be candid: the plan assumed a full 300-coin run. At that
level, the project would have covered all costs and left just
enough remaining for me to attend the 60th anniversary event
in Los Angeles and bring along my friend Jean Peacock-Graham.
With reservations well below that level, that outcome is no
longer possible, and I’ll be sitting this one out.
Because of this, the project will not be moving forward.
All reservations will be refunded in full.
